Small flocks of Purple Sandpipers can be found scattered along rocky coastlines, though their subtle palette and unobtrusive habits can make them very tough to spot. A small rocky island close to home is a reliable spot to see a few as they roost at high tide and is where I sketched out these birds.

Original copy painted by hand, with watercolor technique on special paper for watercolor.
